Database Lesson - Information from around the World

Objective: Students will use https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/index.html to research information about the world as well as countries within the world. They will compare the information they have gathered from 8 countries to the United States and the world.

Database Task:
1. Choose the World from the drop down menu. (go to #4)
2. Choose the United States from the drop down menu. (go to #4)
3. You may choose 8 other countries to compare to the world and the United States. Gather data related to the field names below.... from the website.
4. You must have the following items as field names:
Area
Geographic Coordinates
Location
Language - Most popular
Age Structure
Telephones
Airports
Population
You may choose any other 2 field items to use (flag colors, coastline, etc.)
5. You must have 10 total fields items to collect information for.
6. Of the 10 field items, you must use 4 different field types. (Ex: Text, Number, radio button, popup menu, etc...) 1 must be either a radio button or popup menu.

Practical Database Requirements:
1. You will create a database with the information you have collected about any country you wish to choose.
2. Once your database is complete, you should put it in list layout and sort by population.
3. Add a photo using the layout -layout mode.
4. Upload to Moodle.

One Step Further:
Write a short two paragraph (5 sentences for each paragraph) essay analyzing your data and answering the following questions. Compare and contrast each country to the world and to the United States. What is interesting or what did you learn from this exercise? What other information would you like to gather that you did not get a chance to include in your database? How would this information be helpful in a real world application?
